Do you enjoy a challenge? Some people live for challenges - especially of the eating competition variety! Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs makes a fortune off their hot dog eating competition and the brand recognition it brings to their company each and every year. One challenge I can never forget was portrayed in the film Cool Hand Luke, starring Paul Newman.
Paul Newman stars in the title role as Luke, a prisoner in a prison camp. Luke refuses to submit to the system! His inability to conform drives the entire plot of the movie. You may recall the famous line "What we have here is... a failure to communicate!" Classic! Did you know that in 2005, the United States Library of Congress deemed Cool Hand Luke to be "culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant". The film was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. But I think it was probably selected for this scene alone ...

Luke: I can eat fifty eggs. Dragline: Nobody can eat fifty eggs. Society Red: You just said he could eat anything. Dragline: Did you ever eat fifty eggs? Luke: Nobody ever eat fifty eggs. Prisoner: Hey, Babalugats. We got a bet here. Dragline: My boy says he can eat fifty eggs, he can eat fifty eggs. Loudmouth Steve: Yeah, but in how long? Luke: A hour. Society Red: Well, I believe I'll take part of that wager.

Recently, my wife and I attended a concert in the region to see The David Crowder Band! A big name for such a small region - but he was able to draw concert goers from Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, and of course Delaware. When the band took the stage - David sporting his signature wild hair and long beard - people erupted in applause. Immediately the band launched into one of their hit songs "You Make Everything Glorious".... take a look ...

The song "You Make Everything Glorious" reminded me instantly of all the blessings that cover the face of our planet. From there my mind started to wander and I began thinking about all the years of research, exploration, and writing that went into cataloging these wonders. For every single (known) animal on this planet - there is at least one study or article written describing the creature. For every philosophy there is a school of thought surrounding the wisdom of masters. For every object - large & small - from ships to sprockets - there is a manual or a guide on how to enjoy and use that creation.
The David Crowder Band hits the nail on the head - we are all surrounded by so much natural beauty, amazing animals, exciting places, and human history. All this stuff translates into topics people are passionate about. When someone takes interest in a new topic, they begin asking a lot of questions...
